30 years for "Television ei8ht" Cleveland-1979

"WJW Classic" Logo-Used from 1966-1977, then revived in 1996 for "ei8ht is News"

1959 Christmas Greeting-Notice "Casey Kassem" The one and the same Casey Kasem, who would be famous as host of American Top 40, "Shaggy" on Scooby Doo and many other music shows and voiceover assignments over the years.

From 1953-TV Guide ad promoting WXEL-TV 8's new broadcast tower..

On the blog site here, and on my YouTube page, I have used liberal amounts of several TV History specials from WKYC-3 and WEWS-5. I had often wondered if WJW-TV 8 ever produced such a special detailing its history..While Fox 8 did a series of 50th anniversary reports on the Morning News in 1999, to me it's not the same as devoting a prime time hour to such a special..

Well, thanks to Ray Glasser (Videoholic) and YouTube, we find that WJKW-TV 8 (at the time) produced an hour special honoring the station's 30th anniverasry on December 19, 1979..Hosted by Dick Goddard, the hour is an informal trip down memory lane with TV 8 personalities past and present, including Ernie Anderson, Warren Guthrie, Jim Doney, Howard Hoffman, Joel Daly, John Fitzgerald and Chuck Schodowski, among others..I thought with the last post mentioning the WXEL-WJW change in 1956, this would be a good follow-up..

  2. The test pattern used by what originally signed on as WXEL was apparently common with stations owned by original owner Empire Coil. When KPTV in Portland, OR first signed on as Channel 27, for example, this same design was used.
