When the Hungries hit..Hit the Red Barn!

Recently there has been a wave of nostalgia among some of the sites I frequent regularly. Thought this would be a good time to talk about a former restaurant chain..Red Barn, of course..There is an outstanding site dedicated to the history of the Red Barn..which lasted from the early 1960's to the mid 80's. The site has audio, vintage TV commercials, Pictures of former Red Barn Sites some with the Barn Building, some not..A lot of memories, pictures of premiums, ads, etc. Very complete and extensive..Highly recommended..

Special thanks to Rich Perrott, who is behind barnbuster.net for the use of the photo..A 1961 prototype sign for early Red Barn use..

  1. You got me hooked on that yesterday, Tim. You go on the site and among the first things is the jingle. Pretty Cool. I highly recommend the site to anybody who grew up eating Barnbusters and Big Barneys. I also remember going to the Medina Red Barn, where they had one of the first all you can eat salad bars in a fast food restaurant.

  3. Hey, Tim!

    Yeah, man! THE RED BARN!

That was where our family would go for burger-based fast food. They once had a great premium for the kiddies that was a cut-out farm activity sheet. (This was years before th McHappy Meal!) It provided hours of fun for me and my siblings!

The first time I went to a Burger King I absent-mindedly ordered a "Big Barney" and I got such a look!

  4. Funny all this talk about the hamburgers when the Red Barn was mostly known as a chicken place that also sold burgers (and fish).

  5. I plan on getting some photos of some former Red Barns and post them on my blog in the very near future.
