That's The Way It Is....

Sad to report tonight that CBS News Anchor/Reporter Walter Cronkite has passed away at age 92, after a lengthy Illness..Cronkite was known as "The Most Trusted Man in America" as he anchored the "CBS Evening News" from 1962-1981..He had been with CBS since 1950..

Here is a report from Veteran TV Writer Mark Dawidziak of the Cleveland Plain Dealer

http://www.cleveland.com/nation/index.ssf/2009/07/walter_cronkite_dies_at_92_rep.html

From The CBS Evening News Friday July 31 , 1970..A very classy gesture on the part of Walter Cronkite as he says goodbye to Chet Huntley on "that other Network" on the occasion of Huntley's retirement from NBC's Huntley-Brinkley Report after 14 years.

As I am sure will be said over the next few days by many people much more eloquent than I..The last of the real "Television Journalists" has left us..Condolences and Prayers to his family..

Cleveland TV 1952-Pre-TV Guide..

Photo of a scene from the "Plainclothesman"-seen on WXEL-TV and The DuMont Network Sunday Nights..Interesting that the photo says it was a "Technicolor" Scene..

TV Today Photo for an early WXEL-TV afternoon show

Marlin Perkins, then of the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, as he hosted "Zoo Parade" on NBC-WNBK-4 Weekends..He was known later on for Mutual of Omaha's "Wild Kingdom"

Hello Folks:

I guess you could say we were on what Ohio Media Watch calls a "hiatus" though it wasnt necessarily planned..Wanted to give time for the digital transition and other local tv changes to settle in..Plus my grocery job has kind of been busy in the last couple of weeks with the Fourth of July Holiday and all..

Today I wanted to closely look at Cleveland TV from April 1952 through TV Today..A magazine that was distributed throughout Ohio, Michigan and Western New York from about 1950-55..We had used TV Today before in a couple of other postings but wanted to Spotlight a weekday and weekend from April 19-25, 1952 for all 3 Cleveland Stations..Today, the Saturday, April 19, 1952 listing appears below..Next post will have Sunday and a weekday listing..

"TV Today" had regional offices in Cleveland and Detroit and was printed in Sandusky, Ohio..At times, it listed Cleveland and Detroit in the same edition, other times Cleveland and Detroit had separate editions..

A couple of weekly highlights:
WXEL's Midday Movie at 1:30 Monday-Friday was hosted by Grant Wilson, at channel 9/8 through the late 1950's..and Alan Freed, who became nationally known as one of the first Rock and Roll DJ's..
WEWS had Bob Neal Sports Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:15 PM
WNBK-Today Show at 7AM with Dave Garroway and Tom Haley every half hour with News from Cleveland-Till 10AM
